How To Spot Mold In Your Conservatory
There are going to be signs of mold. You might not see it, but it can be there—steadily growing and making a home for itself.
Sometimes people can smell the mold—it often has a musty odour—but this isn’t always the case. You have to be on the look-out for any signs of black mold growth.
It can occur on your windows, around your windows and really any spot that creates the perfect home.
You have to be vigilant with checking for mold. You really don’t want it in your home.
Practical Steps To Prevent Mold Growth
There are some things that you can do to reduce the possible outbreak of mold.
- Keeping your conservatory clean. Mold spores will land on surfaces that might not be ideal and they don’t start to grow. Keeping your conservatory clean can and will reduce the number of mold spores in the room. Dusting, vacuuming and window cleaning are all top priorities.

- Monitor and maintain the humidity in your conservatory. If you are drying washing, this increases the humidity in the air, the same too if you have a few house plants in that room. If a room gets too warm let in fresh air or remove it with a dehumidifier.
- Maintaining the room, make sure that you are keeping up with the general maintenance of your home, this includes replacing sealant that is no longer doing the task it’s supposed to do.

- Wear protection, gloves and face mask as mold spores are dangerous and you don’t want to be breathing these in.
- Open windows or door to ventilate the room.

I had a polycarbonate roof and the inside of the roof would drip with water daily and I had to dehumidifiers going 24/7 in that room.
Dealing with the time commitment I needed to keep the conservatory dry became so difficult that it was decided the only option was to replace the roof and increase the ventilation.
It was drastic action but it solved the problem immediately.
What Causes Condensation And What You Can Do To Prevent It
Condensation is caused by a number of different things and finding out what is causing it in your home will require checking if any of these apply.
- Drying laundry inside can increase the moisture in the air and can create condensation if there is inadequate ventilation
- Showering and not ventilating the bathroom, it can creep around your home.
- House plants can cause condensation through the added moisture in the pots and the plant growing
