5 Cleaning Hacks You Need To Avoid Today
Have you seen the craze on social media channels with all the cleaning videos that are around?
There are so many cleaning hacks that you might think that some of them are going to save you effort when it comes to cleaning.
Often, those videos with the most views aren’t all they are cracked up to be, they might even be dangerous.
Yes, everyone has reasons for cleaning the house, but don’t put your life on the line or that of your family because you have seen an influencer clean using questionable cleaning practices.
I know cleaning has become a popular way to grow a following on social media but it should be done more responsibly than what some people are sharing.

Using The Wrong Product For The Task
This is something I see all the time, people are using products that aren’t made for cleaning certain things and are still using these products around their home.
Some of the popular things I’ve seen that you shouldn’t do:
- Using fabric softener to spray your home to make it smell nice
- Putting dishwashing tablets in the washing machine to clean it
- Heating up fabric softener to make your home smell nice
These products were not designed to do these tasks and shouldn’t be used in that way.
Mixing Chemicals When You Clean
This is a dangerous situation. Don’t mix chemicals when you are cleaning, it’s not good you can actually kill yourself if you mix the wrong products.
If you are cleaning the toilet surfaces with one product, always flush the toilet before adding a different product to clean the inside of the toilet.
Why do this? Because you don’t want to run the risk of mixing the chemicals from one cleaning product to the next.
Not Reading Instructions On The Product You Are Using
How are you going to know how to use a product if you don’t read the instructions on the product?
Most people don’t read the instructions and wonder why a product doesn’t work like it’s advertised and that’s because they haven’t read the instructions and are potentially using it wrong.
If you don’t read the instructions then how do you know how to use the product, how do you know if it’s suitable for the task you are hoping to use it for?
Don’t Believe Everything You Hear When It Comes To Cleaning
When it comes to cleaning there are so many different ideas that are popping up over social media channels on cleaning an item.
Please don’t believe everything you see because some of these suggestions are just a waste of products and again mixing the different products can be extremely dangerous to you and your family.
- Putting your oven shelves in the grass overnight
- Piling product on top of product to clean the bottom of a saucepan
If you see something on social media always question if that is really how the product was intended to be cleaned.
Even just reading the instructions of the product and you will find the recommended way to clean an item.
Expensive Isn’t Always Better
There are so many different cleaning products coming out all the time and you have to consider the cost of these items and what they are actually going to do that is different from something you have already been using.
Some of the easiest ways to clean are from products that have been around for a long time, this is because they work.
Products like:
- White vinegar
- bicarbonate of soda
- hot soapy water
Have been used for a long time and they work and they work well.
So, if you are struggling to keep up with the new cleaning products that seem to be popping up every week, don’t think you have to buy them just because they are new or your favorite social media channel is full of people using the item.
Stick within your budget, and don’t buy and stock up, chances are they will go out of date before you have had a chance to use it.
What Should You Do When Cleaning
Read the instructions on the product you buy and follow those instructions, they are going to show you how to use a product to get the best results.
You should never mix products, this is extremely dangerous and you never know what a chemical reaction is going to be.
The most common reaction is to release a gas and this is not something you want to be breathing in.
If you are unsure about cleaning an item, ask the manufacturer what they recommend to clean the product.
