Why Use A Home Management Binder
The simple answer is to help you work out routines and systems that make running a home and a family easy.
It’s there to prompt you to take action in all areas of home management, to ensure that you are doing the things that need doing and making your job easier and not more stressful.
The idea is that it works for your family which is why you should customize it to your needs.
This is why I prefer a printable option, my family is different from yours, and for this very reason, it means I can have the categories that I need and not sections that currently don’t relate to my home and life.
Having your family management binder in a central location means that it’s going to be accessed all the time and you can have the different sections in the positions that are relevant to you and your current circumstances.
Your Home Management Binder For Your Family
You don’t need to print every section out, you just print what you need.
I use a Cannon printer to print everything out. I find it simple and easy to use, mine is a slightly older model than this one though!
When you want to repeat a page you can just reprint the pages that you want saving you money on printing costs.
You just need to make a note when you need to print more, if they aren’t ready to use you can’t expect your family to get on board with the home management binder if what they need isn’t available.
This is your binder and for that very reason, it needs to reflect what you need and how you need to see each section.
Make Your Home Management Binder Your Own
If you want your family to help with preparing meals you might need to keep your menu out, say on the fridge door.
What about your pantry, if the inventory for that is in your file and not on the cupboard door, who’s going to mark off in your binder the fact that they used something up in the pantry?
This is why it’s important to think about how your family works and what is going to make it easy for them but is helping you.
Just because it’s on the pantry door, when it’s time to make your shopping list, grabbing the pantry inventory list, the fridge inventory list and the one for the freezer is going to make creating the list a lot easier.
By having a printable version you can take the pages and place them in areas that make sense to your family, so they get used to and do not get dusty sitting in a binder they don’t even open.
Each Section In Your Home Management Binder
It’s going to be overwhelming, there is going to be a lot of stuff that you will need to sort and that’s fine but you don’t have to do it all at once.
You can spend time in one or two sections and get these into your tasks and routines so you start to feel in control of that area before moving on to the next one.
If you try and do everything at once you will find it tough going.
What you want to do is give yourself the time and grace for you and your family to accomplish one section before incorporating more into your lives, after all, if you’ve not been doing it anyway it won’t make much difference waiting a little longer to tackle that area of your home.
Once you have worked that new system into your daily life then it’s time to pick the next section you are going to work on until that one is part of your everyday life too.
Keep working through them like this, it might take more time, but in the long run, these practices and new habits are going to stick and become part of your family life.
Creating Habits And Routines
One thing that having a home management binder will help you with is creating habits and routines.
These make doing the tasks easier, it can even feel like you don’t decide to tackle a task you just do it.
You will have a list of tasks to do, and often it’s the same things on that to-do list that you will notice that you are doing the tasks before you realize it.
It’s about taking the process one step at a time, yes, there are going to be days when you don’t tick off the items you want to, but that doesn’t mean you have failed or that you have to start again.
It just means you are human and things happen and that’s OK.
