How To Use A Diary
Many great tools are available to help you organize your life. But, the most adaptable item that has been around for many years is the diary. It doesn’t matter if you use an electronic version of a diary or you prefer the simple old fashioned method of pens and paper. They both work in similar ways if used correctly.
What to use a diary for
Knowing how to use your diary in a manner that will be most useful to you is going to be slightly different for everybody, but the principals are the same.
You need to add into your diary the appointments that you have scheduled during the year. This can be items like visiting the dentist, to a meeting at the school. If these items are placed in the diary then you are able to see at a glance any appointment that you need to attend and this gives you a visual reminder of the items that you need to remember.
The next items you must include in a diary are birthdays and other important dates that you must remember. This can help you plan your week and month, you will then remember the essential family engagements that form part of society.
Not only do I put birthdays into my diary, the week before the birthday is due, I also note an early reminder of the actual birthday date. This allows me to plan the items I need to purchase in advance of the actual day.
To do lists
It depends on the type of diary that you use; I tend to use a diary that has a day per page because I like to keep my to-do list in my diary. If something needs, to be scheduled in advance this if fine and each evening or in the morning I go over the tasks that I need to do that day or the next and schedule them in.
This makes me focus on the current tasks and I can make sure that I spread out my work over the course of the day. There is often enough space to make quick notes in the day. This allows me to place these notes in the correct areas at a more convent time; they can be a message from an email or even a phone call. This also means that I don’t have notes left all over the place which can sometimes get very messy very quickly, or even lost.
If you use an electronic diary, these can be set for reminders to pop up on to your screen. They are great for some people; they can help those who dislike paper versions of a diary to organize their day. For me, I like the feel of a diary and have a need to cross off items, as they are completed.
Without some form of tool that you can use to organize your day, it can become very difficult to organize yourself and your family efficiently. By understanding how to become organized is going to help you have a home that is calm and appointments never forgotten.
Learning how to use a diary and to have the commitment to know what is expected of you each day will make your life easier, you will no longer be rushing out to buy a last minute birthday present because you forgot; you will have the information there in front of you.
