Why You Need To Clean Your Windows
Window cleaning is something you love or hate, for me, it is something I hate. It is not so much the cleaning but getting that clean streak free shine hours after you clean! Have you noticed that sometimes you can clean a window and hours later you see a smear? It is those little things that bug me about window cleaning, yet I know it is an important part of my cleaning and house maintenance, so it is something I just have to do, you have to clean your windows!

Why Clean Your Windows
Keeping your windows clean is important, it is something that you need to do, and you can pay someone to do it for you. That is a personal preference, it is not something I have allocated in my budget so for me that is not an option, but there is nothing wrong with paying for this service if it keeps your windows clean.
Why you should clean your windows:
- Clean windows look good.
- They let in natural light into your home and this can save you power.
- Protecting the glass from damage from the dirt and the dust particles that can cover the surface.
Clean windows do look good, I hate walking past my own windows and not seeing them shine. If you are looking after your home, keeping your windows clean is just part of that process.
A clean window will let in natural light into your home and this is important, it lets in that light that reduces the need for added light sources, for longer. If you can save power you are saving money.
Getting natural light into your home is a great way to boost how you feel too, it can help make you more energised and raring to start the day.
If you don’t clean your windows, most glass manufacturers recommend at least cleaning your glass a minimum of once a year to protect it from the dirt that attaches to it.
The reason why you must clean the glass for the protection and maintenance of the glass is the dust and dirt particles can damage the glass surface and this will result in the potential for the glass to not perform and last to its expected age. Resulting in the need to replace the glass sooner and costing money unnecessarily. Just by keeping the windows clean and the glass protected from damage from the outside world and performs as per expected.
How Often To Clean Your Windows
This is personal preference, some people clean their windows more than others. If you hire a professional window cleaner you agree to a set timing between each clean. This can vary from every couple of weeks to once a month, depending on the schedule of the professional.
Other people clean the windows themselves and this is just a few times a year, or monthly too.
The important thing to remember is that none of these are wrong, it depends on what you are looking for and the amount of time that you have to clean them yourself or to hire someone to do the job for you.
It is important, I think, that you find the point where you are comfortable and stick with that timing for you. Don’t feel forced or pressured into cleaning more than you want by a professional, as in the end you are paying for the service and the more they clean the more money they make.
Set Up A Window Cleaning System
There is no way that I can clean all my windows in one session, I know that the last windows just wouldn’t be clean. I would have lost the will to clean way before I was half way around my windows.
I just haven’t the attention span to do things that take too long. For me, I like to clean in short bursts. Any longer than 10 or 15 minutes my mind starts wandering and I’m bored and this doesn’t do well when you are cleaning.
For this reason, I clean my windows in sections, I do certain windows at different times and I know my window rotation to ensure that all the windows are clean. I clean the outside more frequently than the inside and that is purely because they get dirty quicker.
I don’t clean both sides of a window at the same time and this allows me to see if there is a mark on the window. I know what side it is on as I will have only cleaned one side of the window. There are none of the “clean the insides with upstrokes and the outside with across strokes” so you can identify the side of the glass that has the mark, you know what side it is on because you have only cleaned one side!
Don’t clean windows when direct sunlight is shining on the window, the cleaning solution will dry too quickly and you won’t be able to achieve a streak-free shine, no matter how hard you try!
I look on my window cleaning sessions as great arm workouts too!
Therefore, I hope I have given you a reason to clean your windows and to think about how often you want to clean yours. Remember, there is no right or wrong timing as to how often you clean, it is a personal preference and one where you should find a comfortable period between cleaning.
Just cleaned my this week, I put all of my house cleaning in a to do list app I found. This week was Windows. I do it about one time a season. I will be blogging about my cleaning schedule soon ( I think).
That is an awesome idea! You won’t forget what you want to do and you can reschedule it in for the future too! Thank you for visiting! 🙂
