Are you looking for a detective game that actually tests your mental ability?
Do you have friends that want to play games that are fun and challenging but you are stumped as to what game to play?
I might just have found one amazing game that is all of this and more.
I was gifted one box of the first season of The Detective Society, The Disappearance Of Claire Makova, but all opinions are 100% my own.

This is one of the best games that I’ve tried, it has been amazing, challenging, fun and entertaining.
The game I tested was The Detective Society and the case of The Disappearance Of Claire Makova.
Let’s start at the beginning, the box arrived quickly and easily with everything included in the box or online that you need to play the game.
There is nothing in the box that is just a waste of time or energy. The items included are relevant to solve the case and nothing that will become useless items that you will never really need.
The Look Of The Game
What impressed me the most was how the package looked when I opened it.
Not only did the notes come in a plastic wallet but the wallet was padlocked and you need to work out the combination of the padlock before getting to the material you need to work on the case.
I thought this added depth to the game and to make it even more challenging.
The Extra Details
Finding the passcode for the case file was challenging and that gave me a buzz, it wasn’t difficult but it also wasn’t easy.
It took thought and discussion as to what the possible answer was and there wasn’t just one puzzle but three before you had a hope of unlocking the padlock.
Murder Mystery Games To Play With Friends
It also gave a nice place to pause the game for another game night. Yes, it did take us that long to work out the three puzzles.
It’s a game of thought, discussion and thinking outside the box to actually come up with the answers we were looking for.
It was perfect to play whilst in lock down, it gave myself and my husband a much needed break and a chance to unwind from the day to day tasks.
More Than Just The One Clue And Done
The second round was just as intense and honestly it was broken into three sessions and they were interactive and fun.
You do need access to the internet and email as you do need to use both of these during the game.
But the email is automated, in my opinion, and that means the replies are quick so as not to interrupt the game play.
I think we might have waited a minute or two for the emails to come through which is important when you are playing with other people, you don’t want to be sitting around waiting for a reply.

Cheating Is Allowed
If you get stuck at any point in The Detective Society there are clues which you can access but in all honesty that defeats the object of the game.
But they are there if you need to check what you are thinking or if you have multiple different views as to the answer of a clue.
Just use them wisely as they will spoil the game giving you answers to the clues.

Product Quality
When it comes to the quality of the game I have found that it is extremely high quality, nothing seems to be cheap and of poor quality and this means it is something that can be played again, but not by the same people as you will already know the answers to the clues.
Value for money is great as there is a good three plus hours play time and as long as you don’t write on the paper you might get away with gifting it to friends to try.
I’ve noticed that season two started off as a Kickstarter and I do think that is a great idea as it can help to create a product of quality for the second season.
What Makes This Game Great?
When it comes to murder mystery and dectective games I feel that they actually have to challenge you.
Yes, it needs to be solvable on your own, but you shouldn’t be given all the steps you need to take.
Being a detective is about following leads, asking questions and getting to the right answer.
However, there needs to be objectives and The Detective Society really handles these well.

This Is A Different Type Of Game Play
What I like about this type of gameplay is that it doesn’t come with a massive instruction book and you have to work out the rules of the game before you start.
The ideas of murder mystries games is completley different you are given clues as to what you need to do and then you need to work through these to a given conclusion.
But there are lots of different steps that you need to take and I think there has to be enough that the players feel they have been stretched mentally but not so difficult that the game is impossible.
Finding that balance is difficult and I played games where it was so bad of an experience I wouldn’t go back to them.
They just didn’t know how to hide the clues and give the amateur detective something to actually work through.
Crime Cases To Solve
Having criminal cases that use your brain power and intelligence is a skill to learn if you are looking at providing subscription boxes that work.
There is so much more to creating a detective subscription box than just the story and The Detective Society do it really well.

I really am looking forward to the next box in this set as I feel that it truly is worth the money, the brain power and fun.

When it comes to criminal cases in subscription boxes, I have tried out a few and I have to admit that The Detective Society is one of my personal favourites.
The quality of the game is great and there are lots of different components that fit together very nicely that takes the gameplay to a level I felt that some other mystery subscription boxes lack.
One game I would recommend in a heartbeat.
