How To Be An Organized Person
The most important thing I think that you have to deal with is comparing yourself to other people. Just because they seem organized on the outside doesn’t mean that they have it all worked out. There might be areas where they wish they were more like you.
You have to find your normal, where your organization is great and you can still function. Don’t forget being spontaneous and enjoy life. It is very easy to feel overwhelmed by what you have still to do, you can have such high expectations of yourself that you don’t give yourself enough time to enjoy life too.
It is about finding that balance where you are in control; you know what needs doing, but you don’t forget to enjoy the family moments too.
Taking Control Of Your Life
Knowing what you need to do and when you need to do the items on your list is important. It is about getting your planning right; you have to make sure that you have enough time in the day to do all the tasks that you hope to complete. There is nothing worse than making your to-do list so long that it is impossible for you to even manage it if you had a week instead of just a day.
Yes, there will be times that you might need to move items around. But taking control of your day is about managing your time and planning it effectively. Don’t put so much in that it is impossible to complete. On the other side not putting so little into your day that it doesn’t matter if you procrastinate for hours because you have so little to do.
Routines and structure need to form your day. It is only when you have these that you will become an organized person. The trouble is, you won’t feel any different because you need to work towards this goal. As you make steps and progress towards your goals you will start to change. When you become the organized person that you dreamed of, you won’t really notice you have arrived because it will just feel natural.
Creating Structure
You must have a structure in your day, you have to know what the main things you need to complete are, and the time frame in which you need to tackle these tasks.
You might base your day around your child’s school times, this gives you the basis for the structure of your day. Seemingly you can structure your day around going out to work. There are any number of possibilities here, but it is about finding your structure, what you use to organize your time frame.
It is then about filling in the gaps, to do this successfully you need to have a time scale for certain tasks. When it comes to cleaning I like the speed cleaning methods, they work great for me; I can fit them in between other tasks that I do at my desk and it means I am able to have regular breaks throughout my day.
Creating Routines
I love routines, I can do them without thinking. You do them automatically and that is awesome. However, you must give yourself time to build up your routines, they only come with practice and building them up slowly. Don’t jump straight in with the idea that you can accomplish so much. It takes time and repetition to create a routine that doesn’t need thinking about. When you tackle them on auto-pilot you know you have won!
Only add one task at a time to create a routine. Practice this item for at least a month before you consider adding another item. You will find that it is more likely to become a habit rather than trying to rush and jam so much into a routine.
A routine is a sequence, that you complete, a morning routine or even a coffee break routine. It is not the length of time that is important but following the same pattern, that forms the routine.
Dealing With Planning
Planning is important; an organized person does more than just the tasks. You have to know when the time that you will tackle the task, is. Without this, you are not going to have much ability to plan. You won’t be able to book appointments and organize other events without spending time with planning.
How you plan isn’t important, you might choose to use a piece of paper, your calendar on your phone or a paper planner. The choice is yours. However, it is about getting into the habit of working out what you need to do and your time frame.
It is using the structure that you created around your day and then planning how to fill in those hours that is important. Only then will you become a more organized person. Having more of an idea of what your day entails and the time frame that you have to work with.
Therefore, if you are looking at becoming an organized person, there are things that you can do. It isn’t an overnight change, it takes time and practice to fit everything into your day so you look organized. However, the more you practice the techniques, the easier it will become before you know it you will be that organized person.
