1. Old Decorations That Are Broken
Before we start decorating our home, let’s go through our decorations and start taking out the items that we no longer want.
It can’t be just me who seems to collect Christmas decorations and never get rid of some of the items we no longer use.
Are there any broken ones that you need to deal with too?
If there are sentimental ones, I recommend taking a picture or two and storing these on the cloud so if they are damaged you have images of them to remember them.
2. Broken Or Damaged Furniture
When the holiday season arrives so too do all the relatives that seem to turn up unexpectedly, we don’t want people sitting on chairs that are broken.
Let’s get those items out of the house before you have an incident and you get blamed for someone getting hurt.
If the furniture is damaged make a note to get it repaired after the holiday season is over, it’s too late now to get a specialist in.
3. Electronic Devices You No Longer Use
We all have those electronic items that get shoved in a cupboard never to see the light of day again.
How about digging them out and seeing if you can sell them or donate to a charity? If they had personal information on them remember to delete this first before selling.
If they are too far gone, don’t just trash electronic devices can and should be recycled.

4. Expired Items In The Pantry
Before you start that holiday cooking go through your pantry and get rid of all those items that are expired and the items you know you won’t use.
You can give the items that aren’t expired to a food bank, this will ensure that at least someone might be able to use those items.
5. Simplifying Linen Closet
You know that when you have guests you need extra bedding, but you don’t need bedding for the whole street.
Go through your linen closet and keep a maximum of two sets per bed in your home, include the folding beds or sofa beds in your calculations.
The rest either sell or donate to a charity.

6. Decluttering The Bathrooms
You don’t need to have so much stuff in the bathroom that your guest have nowhere to put their items when staying with you.
Remove the empty bottles that have been left there, any products that you know you won’t use need to go too.
Whilst going through your bathrooms make sure you check that you do have things in there that are needed, like toiletries and towels.
7. Going Through The Toys
This is hard for any child to get rid of the toys they have which is why it’s a great time to do it.
Involve the children and talk about giving their toys away to families who don’t have much money and remind them of the holidays and how they will be getting some new things too.
Don’t get rid of the toys they play with all the time, you know the ones that have never seen the light of day are the ones that might need to find new homes.
8. Reduce The Paper In Your Home
Now is the perfect time to get your bills online so that you don’t have to have piles of paper for bills that are paid.
Storing them electronically is the way forward, they take up less space.
Go through the papers and bills that you have and see if there are any that can be discarded. Remember to remove personal information first.

You might not think of all the information that you have on your computers and other electrical devices you have around your home.
It’s time to go through your inboxes and get rid of the clutter, empty trash cans and get your electrical devices ready for the New Year with more storage space than you knew was possible.
10. Videos, CDs, Bluerays Let’s Get Them Sorted
I found videos in my cupboard, I haven’t owned a video player in years, probably 10 years so why do I still have them? If you are never going to watch or listen to these again why do you have them?
I have kept a few videos that have sentimental value, and I know charity shops don’t often take them any longer, so you might have to get creative to find ways on which to dispose of them.
