How To Start Planning Your Summer Vacation
Planning your summer vacation isn’t as easy as jumping into your car and heading off for some summer fun, planning is important to ensure that you attend to all the details before you just sit back and relax. Summer vacation doesn’t have to mean jetting off to some far off destination if that isn’t what you can afford or even want to do. There are other options that can make your summer vacation just as memorable and possibly less stressful. Just because taking a summer break is normal, how it looks, in reality, is often quite different.

Planning Your Summer Vacation
You don’t have to go away, to have a summer vacation, you can have just as much fun staying at home. It is what you do with your time that sets it apart from the normal routines of your everyday life.
The most important part of planning your summer vacation is your budget, how much you can afford to spend on your summer vacation. Don’t forget to include the extra expenses in your budget when you are planning your summer vacation.
- The holiday itself
- The holiday spending money you will need
- The holiday clothes you will need to buy
- Holiday insurance to cover in case of any emergency
- The cost of any pet care
- Car parking at the airport
- Fuel if you are driving anywhere
- Any food that you might need
- Money for entertainment
- holiday medication like insect repellant
- Emergency funds in case you forgot something
The list just seems to go on and on!
But this is how you identify how much you can really afford when it comes to booking a holiday and the true expense.
The more prepared you are with your budget the better you will be financially for your actual holiday and you won’t be worried about any extra expenses which you have to cover with some form of credit.
Your Summer Vacation Destination
Where you spend your summer vacation will depend on what you are looking for in a holiday and what you can afford.
If you like the beach holiday where you lay around on the beach all day relaxing and enjoying the sun, you are going to have different expectations to someone who wants activities, visiting different places and soaking up a different pace for their holiday.
A third option, which is becoming more popular, is the concept of a ‘staycation’ this is where you stay at home or not too far away from home and experience what your local area has to offer.
My favourite type of holiday is staying at home, taking time out to relax and enjoy my home. I dislike the stress of planning a holiday, the expense and the changes holidays bring. It is too much for me and my husband is happy, too, to stay at home and to tackle the big projects that we have put off during the year.
I also have difficulty parting with so much money when it comes to holidays, I think they are so expensive and I have so many other things that the money could go on rather than just a week away in the summer.
Destination And Restrictions
If you are opting for travelling for your summer vacation it is important to check in advance if there are any restrictions, vaccinations or complications you need to consider before booking the travel arrangements.
You must add the cost of any of these to your holiday budget, which gives a true picture of the full cost of the holiday. It allows you to see if, after adding up the costs, it is possible to contemplate the destination or if you have to find an alternative location.
Some foreign destinations require you to obtain a visa before travelling, it is important that you apply for this in plenty of time as you don’t want to miss your holiday due to hold-ups on your visa application.
Pet Care And Summer Vacations
If you are intending to go away for your summer vacation it is important that you think about your animals. Finding suitable care is often more difficult than you might imagine.
It is important that if you are leaving your animals in any sort of kennels whilst you are away, that you go before booking to ensure the kennels meet your requirements.
Booking early is also important, it ensures you have a space for your pet; often kennels book up very early.
Check their requirements to when it comes to your pets vaccinations, obviously, they are looking to protect all the animals in their care, allowing an unvaccinated animal onto their premises isn’t best practice for their business.
Not all animals are easy to put into any holiday care facilities. It depends on the animals that you own and their requirements and if possible, there are kennels that will look after these species.
If this is the case, you will have to find alternative holiday care for your pets and this will escalate the cost of the care which you must take into account for when you are planning your holiday budget.
Therefore, if you haven’t started to think about your summer vacation then it is time to work out what you intend to do this summer. Planning is the key to having the best time when it comes to organizing so much into such a small time frame. The more you can do in advance the easier and less stressful it will be closer to the time for your summer vacation.
