Morning Routine
Getting things completed in the morning before you have to leave for work or when you need to get the children ready for school, is easy if you have a morning routine. It means you are aware of what you need to do and others are aware too.
My morning routine:
- Take medication
- Wash the dishes from breakfast
- Feed the dogs
- Sort out the laundry including working out how to dry the washing
- Sort out accounts
This list confronts me each morning and while I know what is on the list I like to write it down in my diary to have the pleasure of crossing it off when it is complete.
You are building habits that you complete without too much thought and if you get disturbed, getting back to the jobs in your routine is automatic.
Children’s morning routine
If you are looking to get chores completed with children, from making their bed to cleaning their teeth, if they know what’s expected of them too, it can make your morning routine smoother.
Coping with frustrated and tired children, especially when you are trying to get out of the door, is difficult but if they are aware of the tasks they, too, need to complete it is surprising how quickly these tasks get accomplished and allows a few minutes for an activity they enjoy.
Becoming organized
As with any transition to a new routine it takes time to set up and during this transition period you must allow for days when things doesn’t go according to plan. It might mean you need to adjust the tasks you wish to complete or you are adding too many too soon.
Try adding one task at a time, this allows the new task to become part of the routine before you add the next one.
Having a routine will help you become organized, it allows you to do tasks around your home without much thought, the morning routine needs to be part of your week, it doesn’t matter if you don’t follow it at the weekends but if you do it will become part of your morning in a very short space of time.
Organization helps to allow all the activities that you need to complete, a time and a place. It is the same for when you return home, if you have a set routine it quickly becomes part of your everyday life as what you need to do.
Having routines is one of the secrets of being organized; you know what to do and when it needs doing. This allows the time to do the other things around the home too; an organized person has a better perception of the time that normal daily tasks take.
Therefore, if you are looking to have a set of routines which you are able to follow to help you become more organized it is a great idea, but make sure you are realistic with the time you have available and not include too many items that will make sure you are late every day.
