Feeling Overwhelmed And Don’t Know Where To Start
I suffer from anxiety and I too get overwhelmed and anxious at what I need to do. It happens and it’s OK, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get back control.
But learning where you need to start to make you feel better and more comfortable is the best place.
For me, it’s the floor, I need to make that look good for me to feel less anxious. So I vacuum, you might need to do washing up, or make the bed. You need to find that task that makes you feel like you have accomplished something good.
When you feel good it helps push that overwhelm back down where it belongs and allows you to see your own potential for the day ahead.
Prioritize What You Need To Do First
Sometimes there are things we don’t want to do, we have built them up into something that is so difficult that we don’t even want to start.
We must do these first, it’s like the book Eat That Frog. Getting those hard tasks done and out of the way makes the day successful and gives you that positive buzz you need to feel better about what you have left to do.
Then all you have on your plate for the rest of the day are easier tasks and you will be able to fly through those because you have tackled that difficult task first.
Make A Schedule But Keep It Simple
The simplest way to beat the overwhelm is to have a schedule that you keep to. Keep it simple, don’t overcomplicate it or have too much in your schedule.
A simple and easy schedule is easier to maintain and the likelihood of it staying is higher.
An over-complicated schedule is going to add to your overwhelm and this isn’t going to make your life easier.
Always Plan Ahead It Makes Life Easier
Having a plan of what you need to do is going to make life easier. Planning ahead doesn’t go well with spontaneity but it can help to reduce how stressed you feel.
If I can have a plan of what’s happening and when, makes dealing with the overwhelm easier.
Declutter And Get Rid Of A Few Things
We all have too much stuff in our homes and sometimes the overwhelm comes from not knowing what to do with things as there isn’t any more room to put things away.
When this happens you know you need to take the time to declutter. Getting rid of things you don’t want or need is a step forward in having more space for the things that you do want.
A good declutter is a great way to get a fresh start on an area of your home.
How to begin decluttering your home is a great article to read.
Make A list Of Your Top Two Tasks For The Morning
I have found the best tactic when I am feeling overwhelmed with my home is to write a list with just two things on it. If I achieve just 2 things I have had a successful day.
If I use a normal to-do list pad, I set myself up to fail because I will fill the sheet with tasks that I just won’t get done!
Sometimes, I have a set time to do the tasks, other times I’m just content knowing that I can tackle these tasks when I am ready.
Reducing what you want to do in a day can help you achieve so much more. You feel good about what you have done and often this can make you feel able to do something else.
Have A Plan Of Attack For The Week
Creating a basic outline for your week ahead is going to save you so much stress. It gives you a chance to look at what is coming up so you can plan your time better.
A simple weekly plan helps us prevent feeling overwhelmed because it gives us the space to plan out what we need to do first.
Try Setting Deadlines
Some people are better when they set deadlines, other people struggle with a defined date. I fight deadlines and it’s not pretty, so I don’t have deadlines unless it’s in my business. I still fight with those but they are there for a reason and I have to follow them.
If you find setting deadlines work for you then by all means run with it and set them in your daily life.
