Cleaning In The Summer
Learning how to clean smart is great if you want a clean home without spending hours getting it clean. Here are some tips which can help you make the most of your cleaning time and knowing when you can just relax and enjoy your free time.
Start with some sort of plan, this is always a great starting point, knowing what you need to do is going to save you time.
You are not having to think about the tasks to do because you will have made a list and know exactly what to do!
Making a realistic list
You have to make a list that is realistic, there is no advantage if your list is too big. Only have a few housework tasks on your list at a time, this will reduce the stress and you can work through these items. You will feel a sense of accomplishment if you are able to finish your tasks compared to a massive list that you know isn’t possible!
Multi-tasking doesn’t work, it is not possible to complete the tasks by doing multiple tasks at once. Start with one task at a time and complete it before moving on to the next.
Timing, it is important to know how long you have to do the task. I like to challenge myself in the time I give each task. This speeds up the process and it ensures that I don’t spend long cleaning.
You don’t need a cleaning schedule, you can use one if you can find one that works for you. I just haven’t found something that works for me since I threw out my old one. I am just making a note of the cleaning tasks I need to do each day and going with it!
An example of a day’s cleaning for me!
Yes, that is it because other areas of my home are part of a routine, I don’t need to mention them. Obviously, this is just one day and the tasks change daily!
My cleaning which I do daily and is part of a morning or evening routine means I cut back on cleaning in my day.
My daily cleaning routines that I tackle without thinking are:
- Cleaning the toilet. I do this every morning, it is a habit that I just do naturally.
- Washing up and cleaning the kitchen, I do this after every meal. I wash the dishes and wipe down all the worktops.
- Putting washing on, this is something I do each day.
- The bed’s made every morning, not by me, my husband likes to do this task.

Making An Impact While Cleaning In The Summer
Making an impact is important, you don’t want to have to think about cleaning all the time. Being company ready is not something that I would have ever thought about, my home was spotless.
However, there are times when life gets in the way and you have to think about what areas of your home make the biggest impact on people.
The entryway is one of those areas if it looks pulled together it can look organized throughout your home without this being the case.
For me it is the floors, I like to see them clean and free of dog hair. So I spend more time in these areas than others.
If you have spots in your home that attract clutter, this could make your home feel less than perfect. Try tackling these areas first.
Spend Less Time Cleaning In The Summer
I often talk about my attention span, it isn’t very long, I get bored easily and this means I like to clean quickly. If I think I am in a cleaning mood, there is no way I am getting loads of things off shelves, the chances of me getting bored is very high. For this reason, I plan my cleaning in short bursts, 15 minutes maximum at a time.
It is amazing how much cleaning you can actually get done in 15 minutes! You just have to concentrate on the task and work quickly towards the end goal of having a cleaning home to live!
So, knowing how long you have to clean is a better way of keeping your cleaning time to a minimum.
