The days are past for many when they are able to spend the day in the kitchen baking. I did have these days in the past when the children were little, and I needed to make sure there was food for little ones to eat. As they grew and the family changed those days are long gone.
Baking most days
If I have a good day and week, I try and bake at least a cake most days of the week, they go in the oven when we are eating our evening meal and if not needed they go in the freezer. I know there are days when circumstances take over, and I get no baking complete; I have home-made cakes in the freezer ready for these emergencies.
It is the simple things that I make, those that freeze well are a hit in my home, it means with reducing numbers of people in the home, food doesn’t get wasted. I can keep enough out to feed the people here, the more that arrive and want food doesn’t cause too many problems because I have already made the food.
I like to freezer cook, it is a great way to have variety in your diet and at the same time, it is all home cooked food. This way I know the food that we are eating is good quality.
Home cooked food
It is important for me to cook for my family from scratch, I am not perfect and there are the odd meals that I buy, but it is a rare occasion that this happens and not on a weekly basis.
This is one reason why I like to have ready-made meals that are available in the freezer; they are there in case I need a meal without much thought.
Home-cooked meals are healthier than store-bought food; this is because there is less salt and preservatives in the food that you cook from scratch. You are fully aware of the ingredients and this ensures that your family is getting a balanced diet.

There are many incentives to bake for your family; their health is just one concern that you need to consider. As the population is growing larger and there are more convenience foods to eat, it is important that you look at the ingredients you are giving your family.
