I’m Binning My Cleaning Schedule
The problem? There just isn’t one really, it is just not working for me at the moment, so instead of trying to force the issue, I am just going to change it. This way it is new, I can try different ideas and see which one fits my family at this current time.
I know there are many different options that I can try:
- Speed cleaning, I do love this; it is great for a quick clean especially if you are expecting guests.
- Certain areas on certain days of the week, like the bathroom on a Monday, bedrooms Tuesday.
- Cleaning on certain days, like cleaning the whole house on a Monday and Friday and no cleaning in between.
- Cleaning at set times during the day.
- Non-visible cleaning, this is where you are always cleaning but it isn’t noticeable.
- Hired help, this isn’t for me financially, nor practical, I would have to clean before they arrived!
- Cleaning to a calendar, with certain cleaning tasks spread out through the month.
- Cleaning daily, according to a set schedule, like vacuum Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Dusting on Tuesday and Sundays.
The Transition Period
This is the most difficult time for me, the house is not as clean as I would like it, yet I am trying out new ideas, and looking to see how they would work in my home.
It is about getting that balance right, yes, I work from home and that does mean that I am here, I am present in the home during the day. The trouble with this is that I still need to work too, and if I’m caught up with the daily running of my business, it is sometimes difficult to remember to clean.
It is sometimes difficult to realize that hours have gone by and I haven’t even stopped for a break!
Working out where the cleaning comes into the equation is sometimes difficult and that is what I am trying to address. I have to find something that works for me, that gets all those tasks completed and for me to feel pride that my house is as clean as I would like it!
I know there are people reading this, nodding and going yes that’s me, my cleaning routine isn’t working and I just don’t know what to do!
What To Do About My Cleaning Schedule
I want to get the cleaning schedule right, I don’t want to worry about whether I have vacuumed at a certain point of the day, I don’t really like being told what to do, I am a bit of a rebel!
Yet, I know as an adult I need a clean house but I also want a clean house; I am not happy to live in a mess. It bugs me and then I get overwhelmed because I don’t feel that a quick clean will do justice for the tasks and it goes round in this circle.

For me, this is keeping my cleaning in check and I am beginning to see where I am heading with my own cleaning schedule, I just need to work in those tasks that are less frequent, but still needs tackling on a regular basis.
I know that a paper schedule might seem an odd choice for the modern technologies that are around. Don’t get me wrong, I love the ability to track things on a spreadsheet but sometimes I do just like a piece of paper where I can enjoy crossing off a task and feeling like I have completed something important.
I like the ability to flick through a few pages and find something, I know this is possible with a spreadsheet and in the past, I have used spreadsheets to keep track of my cleaning. I just found it too formal in some ways, I wanted a less technical option and paper and pen are fitting the bill right now.
This is why finding the right cleaning schedule for you is important, it has to fit with your lifestyle, you have to feel comfortable with the solution that you find. This can sometimes just fall into place and other times it can feel like it will never work and your home will just never stay clean.
This is just one reason when something doesn’t work you must try something new and keep trying until you find the right one that fits your lifestyle and fits in with your time you have available.
