Unlock The Fundamentals Of Office Organization
It doesn’t matter if you work from home or go out to work in an office, keeping your office space organized is key to a more relaxed environment to work. Office organization doesn’t have to cost money, it is about finding the right system that keeps your desk clear and the ability to work effectively in the space you have. It is getting that balance right, the more you are able to identify the items you need quickly and effectively the easier you job will be, it can reduce the amount of time you spend looking for things and increase productivity, because you have the right fundamentals in place which allows the effective working environment.
Office Organization Tips
If you are looking to ease up the pressure of work and to make the task easier, some simple tricks you can learn for instance are, colour coding your files; it makes them easier to identify. It is easier to spot a colour than it is to read a label on a file, so having different colours can speed up the process, if you haven’t got coloured files, try colouring in the tabs or having a sticker on the file that makes it identifiable.
If you’re limited on space, consider having as much as possible stored on your computer, if you have access to cloud storage this can make accessing this data from any device and from anywhere, making it the obvious choice to keeping less stuff on and around your desk.
Don’t have space that you can shut away too easily, it is easier for this to become cluttered and not workable, there are times when you do need to shut away files etc, however, the more accessible your items are the easier it is to keep them tidy and organized.
Keeping like items together can work in principal, but if you have files on a shelf that you only access infrequently having a file you use daily with them, isn’t necessarily the best option for that file. Therefore, instead of grouping in like items, grouping in frequently used items makes more sense in the end.
Cute Office Supplies
Whilst it is nice to see the cute office supplies, from cute stickers adorning a planner to pretty pen holders, it doesn’t make the organization any less difficult, don’t assume by having the cute items is going to make you suddenly able to tidy, sometimes they can make life harder. Yes, using a sticker in a planner makes appointments stand out is great, it is something I use regularly; however, I don’t cover my day with pretty stickers and tape just to look like I am in control of my organization. Looking organized is having a tidy desk, but still working to your fullest capacity.
Being creative with the space you have available is more important that trying to buy items for organization. Often, bought items that claim to organize more effectively just don’t work. For example, I love my planner but I don’t have a stack of different coloured pens for different tasks, I don’t need a supply case of writing utensils to write down some information, just a pen or pencil works for me and I store this in a pot on my desk, it is nothing fancy but it works.
Often the simplest ideas are the best, creating something that will take more time becomes too difficult to master and will fail. Aim to tackle your desk at the end of the day, putting things away will help you when you start the next day as you are not sorting out a mess, you are starting fresh.
Therefore, if you are looking to unlock the fundamentals of office organization, then remember that the simplest idea is often the best and colour coding is quicker to see than an elaborate system that is visually all the same.

I work everywhere (home, coffee shops, libraries) so my entire office has to fit in a tote bag. I learned pretty quickly that carrying around stickers wouldn’t work under those conditions.
I don’t envy you carrying around your office in a bag! Have a great week! 🙂
now we are finally settled I sorted through various boxes etc and found I have a collection of paper clips, pens and pencils to rival the biggest stationery retailer!
