How To Clean A Microwave
Microwaves are a popular choice for a kitchen appliance, whilst they can cook food quickly and easily, often with the results of some of that food splattered around on the inside.
Clean the inside of the microwave so that it is safe from harmful bacteria growing on the inside, or from repeated heating of food which could cause food poisoning for your family.
The cleaning microwave options
- Wipe out the oven when it is still warm from cooking to remove any food that has splattered over the sides and the roof of the microwave.
- If the food that has splattered on to the sides and roof of the microwave is hard, it is possible to soften this by heating a jug of water in a microwaveable container. Once the steam has softened the food splatter, it is normally easy to wipe off with a damp cloth.
- There are cleaning products that are especially for cleaning microwaves, but if you are looking to save money, using hot soapy water, or a multipurpose kitchen cleaner will work just as well.
Food stuff not to cook in a microwave
With technology and microwaves improving, it will depend on the type of microwave you have as to the recommended products not to cook. If you are heating liquids then it is important that you are careful, some liquids can bubble upwards after taking them out causing burning and scolding.
Products with sealed covers are not suitable for microwave cooking because of the build-up of pressure; this includes items like boiled eggs.
It is important that you don’t use metal in the microwave because of the sparks they can cause, but it is not just on cutlery you have to watch, some cups and plates can have a decorative design and sometimes this is metal. I have put a cup in the microwave before with a gold edge, I never even thought of it and my microwave did start to spark.
Using your microwave
It is important if you have a microwave that you use it, it is a cheaper option, especially in the summer where kitchens can become a hot place. There are items that are quick to cook and taste great, I like vegetables cooked in the microwave because it is quicker and if I cook them on the hob, I do over cook them. However, this is not all, if you have invested money in an appliance you should make sure that you use the item, using it once a week to heat up beans is not using the appliance to its full and versatile capabilities.
Therefore, even though this technology has been available for a number of years the use of the appliance is at an all-time low, the microwave is an easy to clean versatile item in your kitchen that you should utilize as often as possible.
