Why Getting The Details Right Is Important
If you have thought about a project, planning the big stuff, getting the details right might not seem important, but they are some of the most important decisions you will have to make!
Sometimes the big items, those that cost the most feel like the important decisions but in reality, the little details are the items that truly bring a project together and make it a success!
I just want to say thank you to The Skirting Board Shop for working with me on this post! As always, all opinions are 100% my own!
The Decision Making
For me, this is one of the most difficult tasks, I hate making decisions, the idea that what I say could have really bad consequences! That scares me completely!
I lack the trust in my own judgement and that is difficult, but it’s something I’m trying to work on!
Recently, before the new conservatory was complete I had to choose the skirting board we wanted to use!
Not only did I have to pick the colour, the style and the size! This is where the Skirting Board Shop came in!
They had so many options to choose from I was struggling to make up my mind!
What I Was Thinking
I wanted something bigger than what was already there, I wanted it to stand out and I knew I didn’t want white!
Yes, the rest of the house is white, but you never know what might change in the future too!
I’m over white! It was my safe colour for way too long!
This is the colour and style I ended up going for and I love it! It’s slightly darker than the window sills and I think it looks great!
It was simple to cut and fit on the wall! We did remove the radiator before starting to paint and this made the process so much easier!
The Process Of Cutting And Sticking
All angles are cut to 45 degrees, this allows the skirting board to meet perfectly at the edges and at any joins!
We used grab adhesive in tubes to stick the skirting to the walls, starting at one end and going around the room one length at a time!
Once the glue has gone off, we will use coloured caulk to fill in any gaps and to hide the lines where they are joined together!
It really is simple to do and it has the most amazing effect on the whole room!
- Choosing a quality product, but within budget is important, this is the skirting board I choose, you can even get plastic skirting too!
- Need help creating a budget? It’s Easy To Make A Budget, goes into the basics of creating a simple yet effective budget!
- Looking for a book on budgeting? I recommend Dave Ramsey for all things budgeting, he knows his stuff!
- The tools used for this project were: Circular Saw,( this is the saw that we use!) construction adhesive and a tape measure!
Keeping It Clean
The one area that is really important to me is keeping things clean, I want to make cleaning easy and having skirting that is in one piece, not chewed by a dog, or not even possible to have due to the opening of the door, is amazing!
Because the skirting is covered, there is no painting required!
I do the glossing, I find it easier than painting walls, but when there is so much skirting in the room, it can take days!
Define The Details
I want the details to be noticed too, how something works together, to bring the project that step closer to completion.
Whilst, this project started off with the largest and scariest part, replacing the roof and all the windows, that wasn’t something that I felt part of the process.
Choosing what the room looks like, picking out all those details are what makes a room complete. Allows you to fall in love with the space and to want to show it off to the world!
Taking Your Time
Don’t rush to make a decision, this is the most important point of all!
If you rush, chances are you will regret the choices, I have been there and done that before!
While I’m not great at making choices, if I take my time and think about something, talk it through with my hubby, then chances are we making the right choice!
Don’t forget your budget! Creating a budget and sticking to it is important, it is fun and challenging too!
Creating Your Budget
If you are unsure about how to create a budget, you need to read, It’s Easy To Make A Budget. This will help you formulate a working budget that you can use to plan any chances you want to make around your home!
Remember, that you need to think of the quality of a product too! If it’s cheap make sure it is fit for purpose too!
Taking care of the details are the most important part of putting any room together.
The main details to consider are the items you need and the overall budget you have allocated!
They pull all the aspects together and start to make the project seem worthwhile!
