Learn How To Detect Clutter In Your Home
There are times in our homes when it becomes obvious that we need to tackle the clutter, but how do we look out for those signs that are trying to tell us it is time to tackle the clutter.
- One good tip is if you fall over something or have to climb or step over objects to move around a room, then it is possible you have too much in that room and you need to start thinking about getting rid of the clutter. It is a risk to your health and the safety of your family and visitors if they have to climb over objects because there is no room to move freely around a room in your home.
- Do you have multiples of the same object? I have three saucepans in my home. It might surprise many people, but my hob only has four rings to cook items I really don’t need 20 other saucepans cluttering up my cupboards, I have what I need and no more. I like the idea of having items that I love but I don’t need to have multiples of the same item, this saves me money too.
- Another way to decide if something is clutter is knowing when an item was last used, if it is still in the original packaging and brand new, yet it has been in your home for more than 6 months, chances are you will never use the item and it is cluttering up your home. Try selling these items to make some money back on these purchases.
- Does the item I question, collect dust and you hate dusting it? This could be a sign that you no longer like the item in question and it might be time to consider removing it from your home. You should only have items that you like in your home, yes sometimes we have to make do with things that we don’t truly love but they have a practical use and for these items you might have to deal with them later.
- All items in your home must have a place that they can call home too; if you don’t have enough room for the things that you buy, you might need to go through items in your home and start thinning out the things that you don’t use or even need. Don’t be fooled into thinking you just need more storage, this is a false idea, what you need to do is to look at the items you already have and start getting rid of the clutter.
- Can you shut cupboard doors, or, do you shove items in and slam the door? This is a great way to detect clutter in your home, your storage space isn’t inadequate you just have too much stuff to fit in the cupboard properly.
- Do you hide your purchases so no one will notice the new pair of shoes or the new clothes because you have nowhere to put them? This is an indication that you might have too many items and you need to go through what you have and to decide what you need to let go.
Putting Into Place Techniques To Prevent Clutter
It is possible to put techniques into place that will help you learn tips to prevent the clutter from accumulating in the first place.
I love the concept of if you bring something new into the home something old has to go, it will make you think about the purchases you make and the item that might have to go. I tend to do like for like items, so if clothes come in then some clothes have to go.
When it comes to other items in my home, it is often to replace an item that’s broken, damaged or doesn’t do the job it’s intended for, very rarely do I buy a new item just for the sake of the item. For instance, I needed some new glassware for the kitchen because I was down to just two glasses, the others had broken over the years, and I worked out it was at least 10 years since I bought new glassware. Therefore, while I didn’t get rid of anything at the point of purchasing the new glasses they were replacing broken ones that had already been discarded.
