Do You Make These 3 Mistakes When Organizing After Halloween
There are typically three reasons why, when you are trying to tidy up and organize everything after the fun of Halloween, these mistakes occur and you can end up with a total disaster instead of an organized and less stressful process.
If you are doing these 3 mistakes you are likely to feel low when it comes to next year and you need to buy all new Halloween decorations and end up costing you more money than you expected. How to get organized at Halloween doesn’t have to be difficult.
Halloween Clean Up
- Rushing – it is a great feeling to get the house clean and tidy and all those Halloween decorations put away for the year. However, if you start rushing to get this completed, often you end up making a complete mess of the whole process and you might even find that items are lost, or not put away properly or in the right place. This makes more work in the end and ends up being a complete nightmare putting them away and next year, when you get the items out, the mess will annoy you, and probably end up spending more money than you intended, replacing all the mistakes you made because you rushed the task in hand.
- Cleaning – if you don’t put away these items, clean and in full working order, it will lead to frustration next year when you want to put out your decorations and find they are dirty, they might have even gone moldy where you forgot to clean them. It is important that you take your time and concentrate on one item at a time, get it cleaned and dried before attempting to pack it away. Make sure that any parts of an item are together and this will ensure they aren’t lost or separated. Don’t forget to label everything, including detachable electrics. How many times have you found a power lead with no idea what it actually belongs to?
- Storing – It is important that to save money each year, you must store the seasonal items carefully and pack these away properly. It will depend on the space you have available and their actual home, don’t forget every item you own needs a home and this includes any seasonal decorations. If they have a home, you know where they are always, making it easier to put new items away if you happen to purchase any in the sales after Halloween.
How To Tidy Up After Halloween
If you are avoiding the mistakes above then it makes sense to take your time and do one item at a time, getting it cleaned and packed properly before it goes back to its original home.
The reason for cleaning before storing ensures there is no dirt or debris that is going to cause any damage to the items if left in place for any length of time. It is always a great idea to keep the instructions that come with decorations to check the best method for cleaning.
Once it is clean and dry then you must make every effort to pack it away so that it is safe and not liable to damage whilst being stored. If there are electrics with the item, I always take the batteries out and store these in plastic food bags with the item, this way if the batteries do split; they are not causing any damage to the item. If there are cables store these so as not to cause damage to the cable.
I check all the bulbs, it is no guarantee that they will work when I unpack them, however, I feel I have better chances of them working if I know they are all working when they get put away.
Therefore by doing this process slowly and thoroughly, I have a better chance that any decorations will be in good working order when next year comes along; this means I am saving money and preserving those items that I like from previous years. This means I am not buying completely new decorations every year, I am adding to the collection I already have.
