8 Handy Dusting Tips
Dusting is the most annoying cleaning task, yet the most rewarding. It doesn’t have to take hours and it can be done quickly and easily with these handy tips that enable the job to be completed quickly and less painfully.
- It is important that you are using the right tools for the job. There are many different products that all claim to help with the task of dusting, but there are only two products that you truly need. The first product is the duster, microfiber dusters are the best because they grab the dirt and hold onto it unlike the old-fashioned dusters that often leave behind the dust. The second most important tool is the feather duster; this enables you to reach to the higher points of the room and makes cobweb removal easy.
- The starting position in the room is the top and work down the room; this will ensure that the dust naturally finishes on the floor ready for the hoover, which should be after the dusting.
- If you have pets then regular grooming will reduce the amount of hair attracted to surfaces. It is difficult to keep up with when you move from the colder weather to the warmer weather, but once the worst of the malting has happened it should be easier to manage.
- Regular washing of your microfiber duster is important, but don’t use a fabric softener when you wash because you will coat the fibres of the cloth and they won’t work as efficiently.
- Use fabric softener sheets for cleaning the TV instead of the expensive cloths that are supposed to reduce the static; they work just as well and are less expensive.
- Reduce the amount of polish that you use, often too much is used and is not needed; I am guilty of this because I like the smell of polish and it proves I have dusted. However, by reducing the amount used saves money and avoids a build-up on furniture.
- Dust regularly, this reduces the amount of dust in the home and can speed up the process. I won’t dust daily but try to go round a couple of times a week, thus reducing the amount of dust so the task is quick and easy.
- Don’t forget the areas that need a less frequent dust but still needs to be remembered. Areas like skirting boards and venetian blinds, they don’t need a weekly clean but they will need attention at least once a month.
Dusting isn’t the most interesting of jobs, but one that is easily managed if you are regular with the maintenance of the task. I often try to dust as fast as possible, it means the task has been completed but hasn’t taken more than ten minutes, which means my boredom of the job hasn’t set in.
It is possible to have a dust free home, this makes you feel better when guests turn up unexpectedly, you are not worried about your home because you are planning and managing the required tasks.
