Getting Organized – One Step At A Time
If you are looking to get your life and home organized, then you need to take things slowly. You are not going to get your entire home and life organized in a few hours or even days.
Once you have a system in place, you will need to keep up with this because otherwise, it will collapse around you. This can make you feel negative and give up, which is why I stress that you need to take small steps to get your whole life organized. There are going to be days when this is easier said than done; you might feel like the only way you are going to manage anything is impossible. But, if you have built strong foundations for your organization plans, then you will be able to manage new stressful situations with relative ease.
Building the foundations
It is important to build the foundations of an organized life. Without this strong base, any ripple in your day could send you and your life spiraling around in total chaos.
The foundations are going to take time, but they will be what keeps you in order, they keep the basics under control. These foundations will quickly be identifiable to you. They are the things that you need to do each day so that it runs smoothly. But to build these foundations they need to be added slowly to your day, so you are able to form them into habits.
A habit is a task that you can do without thinking about it, and the great time to action these habits is the beginning and the end of the day.
For me, I wanted to focus on my home, myself, and my work. So, I have a few tasks that I like to do around the home: wash up and put the laundry on. The habits for myself are giving me time to wake up, so I am not rushed and forget things; then I set to work. I have given myself permission to do all those little tasks in the morning. It gives me time to wake up my brain and get into the mood for writing. Knowing what needs to be done allows me to plan my day.
Everything I need to do is there, written down in front of me, in my diary and this ensures that I don’t miss deadlines or appointments.
Once you have formed the base of your organized life then it is the little things that will fall into place. They will allow you to move in a more purposeful way because you are prepared, you know what you need to do, and where you will find everything. It will become a natural progression. If you fail to build that solid base and something happens, you can quickly notice that things start to collapse. But, by staying strong and focused and not letting the little things take over, you can soon get back on track.
Understanding being organized
There are some people that are fanatical, they are perfectionists and this can affect their way of life. It can become an illness rather than something that makes life easier.
These perfectionists want to be organized and are so hooked on everything being perfect, that when something goes wrong they give up completely; nothing gets organized because they feel that they have failed. This was me a few years ago. I couldn’t get passed the idea that something wasn’t right and this made the rest of my life feel like a complete failure.
I have moved on, and moving on from this stage in my life has made me realize that I can be organized, but if something goes wrong in one aspect it doesn’t mean I have to give up on all other aspects too.
You have to find your own balance and allow these balances the chance for the odd wobble. This is acceptable, learn from the wobble and move forward. Don’t spend time punishing yourself for not being perfect in everything that you do.
It is only when you have a firm base, that will you be able to build up the areas in which you are organized. They will feel natural, you need to praise the success and learn from the errors too, because only then will you understand the true meaning of being organized, being organized to live your life the way you want to, in a less chaotic and stressful way.
