Have you ever thought about listing the items in your home? I am contemplating a home inventory, one that, once complete, will give a complete picture as to the items we own. I can then cross reference this list to the receipts and the guarantees that we hold. The idea of a home inventory is obviously not new. However, it is a new thought that has crossed my mind and I could benefit. The idea comes with the potential to save money, and this is always good!

A Home Inventory Can Save You Money

How often have you gone out and bought something new purely because you have misplaced an item that you need? Having an inventory of your home, I am talking about a complete one, giving all the details, including make and size of the item as well as their home, will allow you to know what you have and where it is, avoiding duplication of items.

Knowing what you own has its advantages. You will be able to have a better idea as to the insurance value of your property. You won’t be guessing what you own; you will have a detailed list. You then won’t be guessing at the value of your property, you will ensure that the items you claim for match what you already own. Saving you money and stress when something happens and you need to make a claim on your insurance.

Once created it will need updating when you move an item. However, this won’t be a difficult task as long as you keep on top of the updating, in theory, this will be the easy part of the task.

If you are ever looking for an item, you will just need to check the home inventory and this will inform you of the location. This will save you time looking for an item; you won’t need to look like some mad person pulling out your entire home to find one item.

The Importance Of A Home Inventory

It might seem like an odd task to do, however, if you are aware of the items you own and the places they live, then keeping your home in order is a lot easier.

 

Not only will you know where everything is, you will also know where everything goes, it will help to keep your home in order. It can help to reference all the items in your homes.

Knowing what you have is a great way to show what you have, some people have so many items, and they think they have purchased a bargain when in fact it is merely a duplication, a complete waste of money.

There is wisdom in creating a store cupboard; it is wasteful when you don’t need the item in question, which will go out of date or need throwing away and this is wasting money. A home inventory can help to prevent this.

Be careful of is where you store this information; it isn’t something that you want to keep in sight of everyone, as this is more like an invitation as to the contents of your home and the current location.

This is something I am going to do in the near future. I think it will have a positive effect on me and my family and I can see the potential for saving money as a big influence in making me find the time to conquer creating my home inventory.
