Treating Allergies
With summer, fast approaching and the height of the hay fever season due, means for many, suffering and misery. However, hay fever is not the only cause of allergies, and it is a battle against all sorts of potential problems that you might face daily, in order to live a normal life.
Treating allergies
If you are a hay fever sufferer, you will know the medication, which you need to take on a daily basis to reduce the symptoms you experience, otherwise the act of opening a window could lead to an increase in airborne particles that can play havoc with your body.
There are medications that are effective in treating the symptoms and some work better than others; there is not a “one tablet fits all” solution.
Antihistamine blocks the histamine that the body sends to attack what it sees as an intruder to the body. It is great for relieving the symptoms associated with a runny or blocked nose, eyes that are watering and constant sneezing and itching. However, these symptoms aren’t just the result of hay fever, they can appear due to a number of different allergies, from insect bites to pet allergies.
You must consider this one medication in your medicine cabinet for the summer months. It is important that you get age appropriate medication for your family, some are better suited to adults, and others better suited to children. The medication can come in a number of different forms, from tablets, liquid and even nasal sprays. Some brands can make you sleepy; for my daughter, Piriton is not suitable for her during the day because it will make her sleepy within 15 minutes of taking the medication. She has a mild case of hay fever, with only a few pollens that affect her, meaning her hay fever season is relatively short, compared to others.
Like many allergies, they can affect people differently, one sufferer will have different variations of symptoms to another person, and this is because of how the individual body sends out the defenses.
If an incident happens, where you need some form of antihistamine to relieve the symptoms, this is why it is important to have a supply in your medicine cabinet. It is also possible to develop the symptoms that you have never experienced before; it is very difficult to adjust to and having some medication to reduce the symptoms, making you feel better is a good idea.
Allergies are not restrictive to one factor; there are a number of different elements that can make life unbearable for a sufferer, which is why it is important that you consider having some form of medication in your medicine cabinet in case of an emergency, like a reaction to an insect bite or even the onset of hay fever. However, it is important to know a mild reaction compared to one that will need medical intervention because the condition has become life threatening.
