Reducing Magazine Subscriptions
A way to save money is reducing magazine subscriptions for magazines that you might not read. It is a positive way to reducing the spending in the home if you are struggling to find ways to reduce your monthly budget.
Whilst buying magazines in this manner is often a lot cheaper than buying them one at a time, the companies often entice you for another years’ worth of magazines and you might not have finished the ones in your home now.
If you buy a magazine every week, it is cheaper in the end to purchase a subscription for the magazine, saving you time and money and the subscription included in your annual budget review. However, it is important that if you find yourself not reading the magazine when it drops through your letterbox, then you must consider cancelling the subscription or at least not continue paying the costs the following year.
Magazine subscriptions are a great gift, but with wanting to reduce clutter in the home, an on-line subscription might be the better option; but be cautious: some companies, if you don’t renew the subscriptions you can lose access to the ones you have already purchased. I personally think this is wrong and if I see this in any terms and conditions, I quickly stay away from these magazines.
Training for your budget
A great teaching concept if you are trying to balance your budget, is to look at cutting out the lot, don’t hold on to subscriptions you have. Once you are at the bare minimum for your budget, it is then time to evaluate what you have left over and what are the best places for your money. Having the unnecessary items cut from your budget can make you assess what you are looking at a lot easier than trying to decide what to cut. It is possible that you will be able to negotiate a better deal in the end too.
Creating the perfect budget just isn’t going to happen; there will be instances that will test your ability to let go of things that you don’t need, that are a waste of money, whilst at the same time being able to judge what is important in your life.
Only then, when you have cleared out the unnecessary from your budget are you able to see what you have available and the areas where you need to focus your money to get the best deal.
Therefore, subscriptions for magazines can have a place in your budget if you can afford them and you work them into your budget. However, the minute you’re bored with the publication make sure you cancel the subscription before you pay money for a magazine that isn’t even removed from the packaging.
This is one advantage in buying the magazine from the shop, as soon as you lose interest you don’t have to spend any more money. Sometimes it is the act of buying yourself a treat that is more important than what you are buying. If this is the case consider cutting down the value of the treat, which can help your budget.
