Bathroom Decoration
Your bathroom needs to function and meet your family’s needs, whilst at the same time be a place where you can relax and unwind, and the easier it is to clean, the more enjoyable it will be to spend time in there.
To get the decoration right in your bathroom you will need to take certain items into consideration and it is important to set a budget; know the amount you have available to spend beforehand, research the products you like, find the best deals and the options that are open to you in your budget.
You might want to rip out your old bathroom and start again but you must consider the cost of this. You might be able to reuse some items; this can save you money on the cost of your bathroom decoration.
Bathroom Extraction
It is key in any bathroom that you have a way to remove the excess moisture from your home, your bathroom is going to produce a lot of this and getting an extractor fitted can be the ideal solution.
In the summer, it is fine to open the window, if you have one, to allow moisture out of your home. However, as the winter draws in you might not want to let the warmth of your home escape and it doesn’t work as well. If you haven’t an extractor a de-humidifier works great at removing the moisture quickly.
If you don’t remove this moisture it can lead to damp and mould in your home and this isn’t a great environment, possibly even causing illness.
Bathroom Storage
Getting your bathroom storage right is the key to a successful space, too much means more cleaning and not enough results in frustration and annoyance. I found a tall unit in B & Q, which is perfect for storing my towels and has a small cupboard at the bottom that is ideal for storing cleaning supplies. It works well and meets our needs. It is easy to keep clean and stands off the floor so any water spilled will not penetrate the wood, making it rot.
Lighting In The Bathroom
It is important that you get a qualified electrician to sort out your lighting but getting the light right is challenging. Bathrooms struggle for light and mirrors placed around the bathroom can help to reflect any light making it look brighter.
Bathroom Wall Coverings
What you choose to put on your wall will be a personal preference, it will need to match how you feel and what you like.
Some choices that are open to you include:
- Tiles
- Wallpaper
- Paint
Whatever option you choose you must ensure that it is suitable for a bathroom. You don’t want to spend money on a paint to find that it is not suitable for the high moisture in the room.
Bathroom Flooring
Getting the bathroom floor right is more difficult than you might think. I went for a white vinyl floor covering and the high traffic areas, the door to the sink is no longer white and no matter how hard I try and clean it, or what I use to clean it I just can’t get it looking how I want it to look.
Therefore, for me the next bathroom floor option I pick, if I choose vinyl again it won’t be a white colour. I have used ceramic tiles and this is a good option because it doesn’t matter if they get wet, it is simple to mop up. However, if you have young children, if they slip on a tiled floor it can hurt a lot. It is also responsible in our home for breaking a number of phones over the years when dropped by accident.
It is important that you don’t use carpet in the bathroom; it can feel damp for a long time and this can lead to an increase in mould growth and this isn’t good for the health of you or your family.
Therefore, if you are looking to change the feel of your bathroom there are many different areas that you will need to take into account. Setting a budget and looking at what you can afford to change and what you have to keep is essential in getting your bathroom decoration to where it makes you happy.
