Keeping Chrome Clean
Chrome is a soft metal and is easy to keep clean and looking nice. It is often a choice for modern appliances because it is shiny and appealing in the kitchen. Fashion often dictates how the look of a product develops and chrome and shiny appliances have become very popular; the show-home look is not always easy to keep whilst living in the home. Unless you keep on top of the cleaning, it can quickly become a source of annoyance, with finger marks and dirt attaching to the surface.
Putting chrome cleaning on your weekly cleaning list is necessary if you want it to shine and sparkle in your home. If you are aware of the jobs that you need to complete on a weekly schedule, it can become a habit; as well as being easier to complete because you are not fighting with dirt that has accumulated over a long period.

With chrome being a soft metal it is easy to clean, some harsh cleaning products will harm chrome and therefore it is important that you know the best methods for cleaning and getting rid of the dust and dirt attracted to this product.
Warm water and soap are the best method for removing the surface dirt from the item; it allows you to assess the situation and work out whether you need a different cleaning product or to change from a cloth to a brush.
Using an old toothbrush, one that you have cleaned, you don’t want toothpaste on the area, to remove some of the dirt that can become trapped in cracks and crevices on the different items.
Remember to rinse of the soapy water as this can leave a residue and impair the look of the chrome when you have finished.

- Baby oil – great for cleaning and buffing up for a nice shine.
- Aluminium foil – great for removing rust from chrome.
- Vinegar – Great cleaning product when soap and water fails.
- Ethanol – This is very similar to using vinegar to clean.
- Baby wipes – These are great for small jobs like cleaning chrome, making the chrome sparkle.
- Coca-Cola – Coke is a great cleaner, but be careful that you use it sparingly and you are careful to rinse of any residue.
- Baking soda – This cleaning product, used for many years as a cleaning product and is still able to perform great.
- Micro fibre cloths – These cloths have managed to form a bond in many cleaning cupboards because they clean extremely well with water or used dry to buff. Some cheap versions aren’t that good, quality counts.
Once you have removed the dirt and dust it is important to shine the chrome. You can use a metal polish for this or a dry micro fibre cloth to buff the chrome to a shine. This makes the chrome look good and can inspire you and other household members into keeping the appliances clean.
