Removing clutter from your life is important, but what I define as clutter consists of mental clutter too; it isn’t just the possessions that you have in excess but also the mental clutter, which holds you back, not allowing you to move forward with your life. Getting rid of this excess in your home and your mind can reduce the stress and the anxiety that you feel, holding on to this baggage can have a negative impact on how you feel and how you deal with different situations, it is time to clear your clutter!

Why It Is Important To Clear Your Clutter
You have to let go of the stuff that you don’t want or that doesn’t have a home. Letting go of the thoughts and feelings surrounding some items might make you think twice about letting go. However, the more stuff you have the more you have to clean and find homes for all these items.
The mental clutter is those emotions that we push down and hide, the pain they can make us feel is real, learning to let go of this can make you feel better. It is hard to let go of emotions that have torn you in half, that can make you cry at a name uttered. The negativity that creeps into your mind and that tries to control you, even hold you back. These are all clutter that you need to let go, you are not letting go of the memories just the pain they cause on the inside, it is about forgiveness and often it is you that you need to forgive.
Once you learn to let go of this guilt and move forward it will make you feel better, the stress that has held you back disappears and you begin to feel better.
The clutter in our homes isn’t always noticeable, you build these walls to protect yourself and often possessions form part of these walls, not only are they mental walls but actual physical walls of stuff, items that you don’t need.
The Benefits Of Letting Go Of Clutter
There are many benefits of letting go of clutter:
- Less to clean and keep tidy
- Less stress and worry
- The feeling of being proud, letting go of things
- The releasing of emotions
- You have space for the things that you love and that you want to keep
- Reduction of mental clutter
Clearing your clutter is not a job you should rush, however, there are instances where you think you are sorting your clutter but you are just moving it from one place to another. This isn’t actually clearing the clutter and will not reduce the stress, it can even increase the stress because you are so concerned about letting things go.
When you start to see the benefits of letting the clutter go, it will make you feel better too. I am not suggesting that you should live the minimalist lifestyle, but we do live in a society that wants and needs everything and at the expense of using some form of credit.
Therefore, if you don’t have a home for all your possessions it might be time to get rid of some, find them a new home, it could be the trash or you sell or recycle the item perhaps at a charity shop. Reducing the amount of possessions that you have will reduce the stress that you feel, cleaning will be easier and even letting go of mental clutter is great for feeling better in yourself too. Don’t think of clutter as just being physical objects clear your clutter from your mind too!
