Making Time For Your Family
For those of you that live in America you will be familiar with the roots of the traditions of this holiday, and why it is important to celebrate Thanksgiving with your friends and family. It is traditional to enjoy a meal together and the meat often chosen is turkey.
However, with more and more shops opening on Thanksgiving to get ahead of the Black Friday sales, it is important to take the time and to be thankful for those things that sometimes we can take for granted.
It Is A Time For Families
If you have family it is important that you connect and make time for each other. It is a great way to make memories, and less about spending money and more about making quality time for those that are around us.
You can make this time of the year fun for all of your family, from family fun games to games to keep children amused. It is not about spending money but having the fun and enjoyment of spending time with people who you care for.
What If You Are On Your Own
If you are alone over this time of the year there are plenty of places that would welcome you in to help and have fun.
Look for opportunities where different places are looking for volunteers, you’ll be surprised how much helping others can lighten your heart and make your life so much easier than you might have ever imagined it possible.
Volunteering is a humbling experience and should become an important part of your life, learning to give to others.
Places to volunteer:
- Charity shops
- Food banks
- Homeless kitchens
- Older people’s centres
- Talk to your neighbours
- Citizens Advice Bureau
There are lots of places where help’s needed to make people’s lives, who are less fortunate, better, even if it is just a few hours of your time, it can make a person feel better too.
What Are Time Priorities
It is a time of the year where everyone is busy with shopping and gift buying, but is that as important as giving away time? Time is a commodity that many people just don’t seem to have, they are too busy rushing from one task to another, buying gifts, working and sorting out family schedules.
It is important that you look at each day and see where you can make the most of the time, you will need to consider the time that you have available and the tasks that you need to do. However, on Thanksgiving it is about remembering more about what has happened in the past and how it gives you the opportunity to think about how you are going to change or alter your future, to make time for others, it can be friends and family, or even volunteering with complete strangers.
It might be something small but if we all stopped and thought about being thankful for what we have and what we can do to help other people, it can make our own life more fulfilling.
Therefore, think about giving up your time for someone else. Your time is the most important gift you have and can give.
I want to take this opportunity to wish all my readers who celebrate Thanksgiving to have a happy and joyful time.
These are wonderful suggestions! :] I don’t get to be with my family this year for Thanksgiving either, but I’m spending it at a pet sanctuary that I volunteer at, and so far, I feel like there’s no better way to spend my Thanksgiving morning than to be surrounded by rescued pets and awesome people. :D!
