While having a bonfire is great, you must consider your neighbours, you don’t want the smoke to go into their house or garden if possible, and they might be worried if you leave the fire unattended for any length of time because of the potential threat to their home, too.
Even after taking all these considerations into account, animals can get into the fire before lighting, thinking that it looks like a nice safe place to sleep. You must inspect a fire before you light it to ensure that no wild animals have moved in and set up home.
