Pet Organization
Having a happy home where everything works smoothly is everyone’s dream, but in reality, life can and does get in the way of this perfection. However, if you have a schedule for most things they can work well with little thought.
This includes getting your pets organized too. This is creating a feeding schedule, knowing when they need to go out for a walk, building this into your everyday life can build habits, and tasks, completed without much thought as to the process. It can become automatic, this takes the pressure off, because you are not worrying about when you will fit them in because you have a schedule and it works.
What to schedule with your pet
- It is important that you have the dates of their annual injections written down, then you can be prepared for them and for the bill that comes with the injections.
- Note down medication days, including flea and worming treatments. This allows you to ensure you have an adequate supply of the medication. My vet has a scheme and every 3-month intervals, they give me a call when it is ready for me to collect and I just note the dates of the treatment on my calendar.
- Have a file for each of your pets, including any medical information and their vet records; this ensures they are all in one place. If you need to show they have had their kennel cough injection before you go on holiday, you are not rushing around looking for their documentation, it saves time.
- Note down their feeding schedule and who is responsible for their feeding, this is a great task for children to learn responsibility about animals.
- Have a cleaning schedule set up and who is responsible to clean up after your pet. Whether it is cleaning the cat litter tray or removing the poo from the garden on a daily basis, can help the health of your family as well.
- Pets quickly become familiar with their schedule if you keep to the same times, it is surprising how a dog who’s walked at the same time daily is ready and waiting for their walk. I feed on a rough time schedule for my dogs and they know when meal times are.
Having a pet is a great way for companionship and can help reduce stress. By organizing the basics in relation to the pets you have, can help to control the situation, and ensure their health is your top priority.
It can help create calm in a household that often looks from the outside as chaotic, but if you have a schedule for all of your pets then you are in control of the situation and you are then meeting the needs of your pet. If you are struggling with looking after your pet, seeking help before the health of your pet comes into question is vital. They need looking after and if you don’t have the time or the money then looking for an alternative home is the best decision for the animal.
