My Evening Routine
I like to do certain things before going to bed, it ensures that when I wake up there isn’t a lot for me to tackle, because I really am not a morning person!
- I like to clear my desk, get things put away from the day so I can start afresh in the morning. It is surprising how better I feel heading to a clear desk instead of a jumbled mess!
- I make my to-do list the night before, I check off if I have appointments and then I plan the tasks I need to do. I like to give myself a rough idea of the time frames of certain tasks throughout the day just to give my day more structure!
- The washing up is always done, and the kitchen clean ready for the new day to begin. It isn’t so hectic with the kids making lunches as they have mostly left home, my husband makes his own too, which saves me time!
- I put any clean clothes away and sort out what I am wearing ready for the morning.
- I do struggle with turning off the light, this is one area I’m determined to work at this year! I seldom turn off the light before 11.30pm, I am trying to cut this back as I know sleep is so important!

How An Evening Routine Helps
I use my evening routine as a way to wind down from the day. It used to make sense doing certain things when my kids were little, but as they grew life changes happened and I had to make changes to the way I did things and that included my evening routine!
Sometimes, it is knowing when something is working and you keep trying to make it work and it just won’t! That is how I was feeling, I was struggling with the changes in my home and I just couldn’t figure out what I needed to do or what I needed to change.
The thought came to me one night as I lay in bed, all I needed to do was to make some changes to my evening routine to make my day easier! I was waking up to chaos, well my mind was feeling this chaos and I just couldn’t focus.
A little tweak of my routine and it was amazing, I felt like I had taken back control. The problem, I hadn’t taken the time to straighten my desk, so, when I went back to work I didn’t know where to start!
