Moving Tips
If you are preparing to move, having a plan can help you with the organization. This can mean that moving day is less stressful.
The plan
You need to be able to plan in advance the jobs that you will need to do, this makes it easier to be prepared.
Boxes
One of the easiest jobs that you can start months in advance of the move is packing. It is possible to start to sort through your belongings and begin to get them in order, get them boxed up and labelled. It is vital that you have a list of what is in each box. This makes it easier when you come to unpacking, you will not be opening box after box looking for a particular item. It is also a great idea to label the box with its room location; this will help you and your removal team to get the boxes to the right destination. There is nothing worse than opening a box in one room to then have to take all the items to another room to put them away. If the box is placed in the right location, then unpacking is quicker and easier.
Who to tell
Start by making a list of all the people that you will need to tell of your new location. Note if they have an email address and see if they will accept a change of address via email. There are going to be some companies that will allow you to do this but financial institutions will probably want you to go into the branch and change these details in person.
Once you have your list it is a great idea to get writing your change of address letters. Don’t send or post any letters until you have confirmed the date of the move, and any potential problem which could arise has passed, before you tell people of your new address.
This way you will be prepared and you won’t be worrying about all those people that you need to tell. If the basis of the information is already written, it might mean filling in the last few details and then sending them. This will save you time and frustration trying to find details either after you have packed boxes or when you have just moved.
The more you do in advance
It might seem the logical thing, but you will be surprised at the amount of people that don’t plan a move. There could be cleaning that you need to be doing or even some decorating if you have been renting the property. This is not something you will be wanting to do on moving day, so by getting these jobs out of the way in advance will save you time and stress.
Family
If you have young children it is a great idea to see if you can get some help with child care. It can be difficult getting items into your home and still have to remember to feed your children and to make sure that they are safe. It can be a difficult time for them to adjust and it is often that they can be over excited or nervous about the move.
So, be prepared, if you have to have them with you, have food prepared in advance. This can be a life saver because it means that it is one less job that you will need to do when you are trying to move.
