As my journey continues, I look at how far I have come in the last 6 months and the journey that is still ahead for the next 6 months, I have learnt a lot. It has shown me that whilst I thought I was great at planning and having the tools to take me to my end goals, I have been quite surprised by the fact that my planning skills aren’t as tuned as I thought and that this last six months have been a learning curve that I wasn’t expecting. However, the advantage to this process has allowed me to look at what I thought I was doing right and to really assess the actual process and learn what I should actually do, to successfully plan to achieve my goals.
My Journey So Far
Looking back at the beginning of the year, I had some great ideas that I wanted to achieve by the end of the year; none of which had really detailed plans broken down into the relevant sub categories that I could actually work towards and complete my goals. As each month passed, I have tried to make excuses and to hope that the following month will improve. Unfortunately, what I have failed to do was to put in place detailed plans on how I would actually achieve my goals by the end of the year.
This last month I have learned how to create plans that will work, I have been searching for articles on planning. Many of these, I have found they are lacking something important, or it just wasn’t a way that I could understand and transfer back into my plan for the rest of the year.
It has played on my mind and I’ve been confused as to what to do to bring my goals back into something that is real and something that I can actually achieve.
I am so surprised to get to this point in my journey and really realize that I haven’t planned enough and in detail. This has worried me, I have stressed about it and in truth I haven’t taken the steps that I thought I would have; I haven’t addressed the problem until now.
There are 6 months left in the year and I do intend to put them to good use, I am not going to let them just disappear, but now I understand what has gone wrong, I am able to put this right and that starts now!
The Changes That I Am Making To My Goals
I am not changing the goals, but what I am doing is creating details that will help me move forward and reach my goals. I have these long-term goals in place, but what I need to do is to break them down into items that I can do each week, making me head in the right direction.
I have 6 months and that is plenty of time to put these goals into practice, I have yet to find a system that is pre-made that I like, that fits my needs. For this reason I am going to have to get creative and work out not only how I intend to track these goals but also to show them broken down into, monthly goals and these will need breaking down into weekly and finally daily goals.
Whilst I talk about goals, I need to transfer this into actual feasible tasks that I can do and move forward in the right direction. Therefore, while a goal might be a large measurable goal like increasing readership, to transfer this in to something, which I can push, could be improving other areas and making actionable plans that will enable the goal.
One important area is to ensure that I actually put the plans in place; there is no point in me creating plans, if I am not pushing these forward and actually creating the time to do the work.
Therefore, what I am taking forward until the end of the year is to create and implement a better, workable planning system that will allow me to focus on the right areas to reach my goals. I have learnt that whilst I thought I was great at planning this last 6 months have shown me that I have a lot to learn and I will continue on this path of learning how to plan and implement these plans into my daily and weekly working life.

I love that you share your journey with us. I’m going to go and check my goals right now. I’ve written them down this year for the first time ever and that has helped far more then I imagined. I’m looking forward to reading how you go after you’ve made your plan.

It is great to see you recognizing your achievements. Also, how you feel you need to plan in more detail, which is a good thing. I have adopted some of your ideas, breaking tasks down to make them more realistic being just one of them.
